Case study
A pilot day in rail: KiwiRail Wellington Metro
Wellington, 16 September 2026. About ten people, headsets, a facilitator, and the rail questions that matter.
H&S representatives and the risk team, in a room for a day. Workshops one to three, delivered with CHASNZ. Some had sat through an EBS introduction two years earlier; this time they worked the scenarios, assessed a task and argued about which controls were Direct.
The rail questions were the useful ones
- Track work with trains running
- Working under a raised wagon
- Overhead line work
- Shunting
- Platform edges
Each one had to be placed on the Energy Wheel and tested for a Direct Control.
That argument, in the room, is what the programme is for.
We hope to be back in the classroom with KiwiRail, this time with VR experiences tailored to rail. The Marlborough Lines pilot ran the full four workshops.
